Social Media Guidelines

The State Coastal Conservancy considers its social media and other online discussion platforms (such as its websites, webinar chat rooms and Facebook pages) to be limited public forums for the respectful exchange of ideas and information between the Conservancy and members of the public. These forums are intended to address topics that are part of the Conservancy’s work, such as resource conservation, restoration, coastal access, and other specific topics the Conservancy shares on its platforms.

Comments posted by members of the public on Conservancy social media accounts do not represent the views of the Conservancy.

Comments and discussions on Conservancy social media accounts must abide by the terms of service of the platform provider.  In addition, under the Conservancy’s Social Media Guidelines, the Conservancy will monitor posted comments, and reserves the right to remove inappropriate content, including:

  • Content that does not give proper sourcing. Sharing or posting content owned by others should comply with copyright, fair use and established laws pertaining to materials owned by others. This includes, but is not limited to, quotes, images, documents, links, etc.
  • Content that threatens, condescends, or degrades any individual or group belonging to a particular race, culture, religion, sex, sexual orientation or political party, or that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regards to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation.
  • Content that is profane, vulgar, obscene, threatening or sexually explicit.
  • Content that can be classified as confidential, private or proprietary, or can be classified as personal health information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Content that contains a solicitation of commerce.
  • Content that contains paid advertisements or endorsements.
  • Content that may be illegal or encourages illegal activity.
  • Content that may compromise the safety or security of our staff, the public or public systems.
